Prices and Policies

When you purchase one of our hedgehogs, you are stating you understand and agree the following outlined items. When you email us you are asked if you have read these policies. If you have any questions about the following items outlined please feel free to contact us and discuss it. There are many case-by-case things we do as we understand each pet and each family is unique and different from each other. You will be signing a contract before the hedgehog leaves saying you agree to these terms; including, no breeding.

How does Happy Hogs work?
 

        Please feel free to contact us at any time with any questions at all you may have. We enjoy working with you to find the right companion for your family.

 

        In general, hedgehogs are sold on a first come and first served basis. If a hedgehog on our website catches your eye then please contact us and let us know. We do everything on our website by hand and can get behind so by sending us an email we can make sure the hedgehog is available. We do have a waiting list we maintain so some times the general public will need to wait until the waiting list has had their chance to choose their hedgehogs.

 

        If there is not someone on our website that catches your eye, go ahead and send us an email if you'd like. You are welcome to continue to keep an eye on the website if you're in no rush and waiting for a specific color or marking. We're more than happy to try and help you achieve goals if we know what you're aiming for.

 

        Hedgehogs will not leave our care until their total has been completely paid. We will not let a hedgehog go home on any sort of payment plan. We also do not like to hold hedgehogs for longer than a week post their weaning date simply because males get territorial as they get older and it becomes more difficult to house all of the hedgehogs.

Shipping and Picking Up Hedgehogs

 

 

        Please be prepared to come pick your hedgehog up from us in Lubbock, Texas. We do not ship hedgehogs.

Policies and Pricing Information​
​

       Our hedgehogs for pet-only homes are usually between $100.00-$250.00. Some times we will discount a baby or a retiring adult and pricing will depend on the color, gender, or unique markings of each baby. The final price of the hedgehog will be stated beside the hedgehog on our Available Hedgehogs page. We do try to meet requests for colors as best as we can but we cannot promise the colors or patterns on young hedgehogs. These can change as hedgehogs mature.

 

        We do reserve the right to deny any person(s) an animal if we feel the home would be unsafe for our animals. This has never happened before but that's not to say it won't ever happen so we need to make that clear.

        These pet-only hedgehogs do not come with pedigree information. This is to help us from our files being falsified. For as silly as it may sound, it has happened to other breeders and we're just trying to prevent it from happening to us. (If you have a reason, such as shows, for needing your hedgehog's pedigree then we can discuss this.)



        We do not sell breeding hedgehogs, different sex pairs, et cetera to any customer. Period. Contrary to popular belief, a breeding business is not easy money. It's hard, requires a lot of responsibility and a lot of money in veterinary costs. It takes a strong passion for the animals and we cannot count the hours we have dedicated to researching and maintaining our extensive pedigrees. We ask that you please understand and respect the lengths us breeders go through to secure safe and loving homes for all of the babies we bring into this world and my bluntness towards unlicensed and "backyard" breeders. Also, we do have every customer sign a contract stating they understand their hedgehog is being sold with no breeding rights and that we do have the right to reclaim the animal through the court of law if breeding is discovered. â€‹


        We do not sell hedgehogs to residents of the following illegal states:

                               Hawaii

                               California

                               Georgia

                               Pennsylvania

                               West Virginia



        We do not sell hedgehogs to the residents of the following illegal counties:

                               The 5 boroughs of New York City

                               Douglas County, Nebraska

                               Windsor, Ontario

                               Langley, British Columbia



       All of our sales are final, most of the time. We do treat every hedgehog and every family and customer with a case-by-case look since we do realize human beings are all as original as their pets. 



       All of our hedgehogs are guaranteed against Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS). For as silly as the disease sounds, it is a very serious disease and a very sad thing to have to witness and experience. Professionals do not know what causes this disease but think that it may be caused by genetics so we go out of our way to clear many generations without WHS in our pedigrees and babies. The disease usually shows up within the first 18-30 months of life but in recent times it's been seen in hedgehogs at all stages of life. WHS can only be diagnosed via necropsy and study of the animal's brain and spinal cord. If you ever feel like hedgehog is afflicted by this disease, with a veterinarian/licensed professional's necropsy report for us, we will replace the hedgehog free of charge. However, we do not refund the hedgehog and we are not responsible for your pet's veterinary costs.



        Finally, we take pride in these animals! If you take home a hedgehog and months later you decide the little guy isn't right for your family, we do require the animal be brought back to us so that we may find him a home. We do ask questions about bringing the animal back only because if there is behavioral or health issues with the hedgehog we do want to know and need to know to properly care for the animal/find it the right home. We do not judge customers on their ability to care for the animal or make it a hassle to bring back the animal, nor are we going to ask questions that pertain to you and your ability to care for the animal. We're much happier that you made a responsible choice to give the hedgehog to a better home if you decided they were not right for you. But a surrender is just that; a surrender. We will not pay you for the hedgehog and if the hedgehog is adopted back out with any fees it is only to cover veterinary costs. Be prepared to sign a contract that does cover this agreement.





 

Payments



       Please talk to us by email and let us know what you are wanting in your hedgehog before you make it. This is our home and we put a lot of effort into our pairings to produce each and every customer a healthy pet while maintaining the highest standards for health and temperament that we possibly can. Color preferences, gender preferences and any other information is helpful in us finding you your new companion.

        As of July 1st, 2022, all hedgehogs can be paid for via cash. We will not hold hedgehogs for longer than ourteen (14) days. We will NOT accept checks, money orders, electronic payments, or cards. You will be given a receipt upon request. Payment apps, like Venmo, changed their policies for 2022 and have made taxes difficult for small businesses. We will not accept them again until this is cleared up.

WE NO LONGER KEEP WAITING LISTS. Since we are only accepting cash payments and many people travel, this has made things unfair. During certain times, like holidays, we may keep an email list of people who will select their hedgehogs before others. This is usually only Christmas time. If it is a busy holiday season, feel free to ask us when you email us.
